FUTURE EMPLOYMENT TRENDS |
- Agriculture (Farming) - very small growth in this area due to increased imports of raw and processed food products. This could change as American farmers diversify into organic and green farming which has strong appeal in European countries.
- Construction - Strong growth is seen in all areas of construction due to population changes, increased demand for multi-unit housing, and replacement of aging structures.
- Mining - Small growth is projected here due to numerous factors such as mine safety, the inability of owners to raise capital to modernize their operations, lack of "virgin" mines etc. However, recent technological advances and increased demand may be sufficient to turn the trend. Foreign imports also play a factor here.
- Natural Resources & Energy - With endeavors underway to find alternative sources of energy, we predict overall strong growth in this area. However, global competition for raw materials will shift many jobs overseas. For the immediate future, employment prospects will be spotty especially for public sector jobs in parks, etc. However, global warming and increased awareness of our finite water resources portend employment growth in some select technical areas.
- Oil & Gas Occupations - Strong demand is projected for this whole area due to increased demand for all forms of energy for the immediate future.
- Commercial Fishing - Small to negligible growth due to shrinking domestic fish population and increased imports.
- Forestry - Small to medium growth due to land development and fewer dollars spent on maintaining our forests. This trend could change if public demand for well kept national and state park forests increases.
- Environment - Strong growth is projected in this area due to increased awareness of pollution and hazardous waste .
- Sports,Recreation, & Hospitality - Strong growth is projected in this category due to its mass appeal especially among "Baby Boomers".
