  • 3 U.S. National Forests
  • Over 290 State Trails
  • 71 State Wildlife Areas.
  • 4.5 million acres are owned by the MI DNR, with 3.9 million acres of forested land, and with 400,000 acres under active DNR Management.
  •  3,000 State Campgrounds.

Did you know that?

  • Michigan has over 3,000 miles of freshwater lakeshore, more than any state in the U.S., and it has 11,000 inland lakes and 2 Great Lakes.
  • $3.1 Billion Dollar was spent in 2006 on Outdoor Activities.
  • There are 1,022 Bed & Breakfasts in Michigan. .
  • There are 730 Lodges, 1,344 Resorts; for a total of 2,074 resorts & lodges, in this Great Lake State.
  • The Upper Falls of the Tahquamenon River, part of the Tahquamenon Falls State Park, is the most visited nature spot in Michigan.
  • The Major Outdoor Issues specific to Michigan are: Managing 400 different wildlife animals and tracking predatory animals such as cougars, updating the DNR management plan for the 4.5 million acres of DNR land, the use of steel traps in hunting, managing & eradicating diseases & invasive species, and land use permits for oil & mineral exploration.
